Harry Kane becomes England’s record World Cup goalscorer

Kane scored his 11th World Cup goal against Panama.
Harry Kane became England’s record goalscorer at the World Cup after he scored during the second half of the Group L game with Panama.
Kane headed home Jude Bellingham’s cross to make it 2-0 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to take his tally to 11, moving clear of Gary Lineker.
The Bayern Munich striker levelled with Lineker after bagging a brace against Croatia in England’s opening game last week, but he now has another record to add to his collection.
His 82nd international goal takes him level with Jurgen Klinsmann and Sandor Kocsis on 11 World Cup goals and he will be hoping to climb the list further by going on a deep run in the tournament.

Kane won the Golden Boot in 2018 in Russia when he scored six goals during England’s run to the semi-final, including a hat-trick against Panama.
He then bagged another two during the Qatar edition but missed a penalty against France in the quarter-final defeat.
Lineker scored his 10 goals in two tournaments, winning the Golden Boot with six in Mexico 86 before adding four at Italia 90.
Kane’s goal against Panama keeps him in the frame to become the first player to win the Golden Boot twice as he sits two behind Lionel Messi on five, with Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Ousmane Dembele and Vinicius Jr all on four.
Kane told the BBC: “I felt like I was getting into good posistions but the ball wasn’t quite falling for me and they defended well, defended the box well, similar to the last game.
“I was making good movements but it kept avoiding me.
“I had a good chance before where Jude slid me in and the keeper made a good save.
“As a striker, you are itching to get chances and Jude had a lovely bit of play on the left and hung a ball up perfectly for me to attack and it was nice to see it go in.”
