Danny Webb expresses disappointment in Chesterfield’s draw with Gillingham

The assistant manager was very aware of the mistakes made.
Chesterfield assistant manager Danny Webb admitted that it was “really disappointing” to only draw 1-1 against Gillingham after taking a first-half lead.
Josh Koroma put the home side ahead before Ronan Hale equalised just before the hour-mark.
Webb said: “It is really disappointing not to have the three points. Let’s just clear that one up straight away. On another day, you don’t concede it.
“Decision making is different, and there’s a few mistakes now where we’ve conceded goals. But no one means to make mistakes. Let’s just say that first and foremost, but it’s happened.
“And then after that, we were pushing for the win, and it didn’t come against a very resolute Gillingham team.
“Another day we might have got a penalty. But no excuses.
“Sadly the last few league games it has been our own doing that’s given the opposition a goal.
“Gareth’s a very experienced manager and he certainly wouldn’t have liked the amount of ball and the amount of chances and final third entries that we had. So I’m sure he tweaked a few things that might have stifled that and they’ve got some good players.
“Sadly that one goal has cost us a win tonight. But you have to look forward and look for a reaction improvement from Rotherham. We certainly got that in the first half.”
Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth said he was “really proud” of his team.
He said: “Really proud, first of all, on the result, coming to Chesterfield, giant favourites for the league at the start of the season. Taking a point home, really good.
“First half, we were absolutely nowhere near, nowhere near. We weren’t close to people, we didn’t get tight.
“At half time, we had to give them a right blast to say, ‘Right, where is that? Where is Saturday and the Saturday before? Where is that intensity?’
“Where when a Chesterfield player receives that ball, he cannot have time on the ball. We have to be there as he arrives. And I think Andy Smith put the first tackle in the second half, and it was like, right, here we are.
“We are not going to sit down and we are not going to take this. And the endeavour got us the goal.
“For the boys to produce that second half, I was really proud.” And you know what? To stand up to a deluge, really, of crosses and attacking play, and then we almost could have gone and couldn’t nick it, you know. And it would have been a nick, you know.
“I’m not saying because Paul Cook’s side were very good first half, but we let them be good. It wasn’t them being brilliant.
“That’s us (in the second half). That’s more like it. And yeah, really proud.”
