Sonny Alfrojee and Tom Bradshaw scored the goals in a 2-0 win.

Rotherham manager Alex Bruce is hoping his side can “kick on” after Sonny Alfrojee and Tom Bradshaw goals secured a 2-0 FA Cup first round win at League One Bromley.

Aljofree struck just before the break and Bradshaw grabbed a second 11 minutes into the second half as Bruce’s side booked a place in the second round.

Afterwards a delighted Bruce said: “I was absolutely delighted with the players today, we were down to the bare bones. It’s been a tough few weeks but I felt that performance was just around the corner.

“We won’t get carried away with the victory but it sets a template now for us to use and stick at it. I’m of the firm belief that this group of players can kick on and show their true ability.

“We’ve shown glimpses before now but this was a good level of performance and management of the game. We completely bossed the second half.”

Bromley started well and Richard Taylor headed on to the roof of the net but the Millers took the initiative when Aljofree headed home Josh Austerfield’s cross in first-half added time.

George Sebine hit the post 10 minutes after the break but Bradshaw doubled the lead from the next attack. Jacob Mendy’s mistake was pounced on and Bradshaw was able to turn Shamal George and slot home. Bradshaw could have had a second but headed against the post late on.

New Bromley manager Karl Robinson said: “We’ve tried to change the style and it will be a work in progress. We worked some wonderful areas in the first half.

“When we conceded late on in the first half it was always going to be crucial. We must learn from the nature of the goals we conceded but I’m not too disappointed with what I saw overall. We will get better with time.”
