New Wolves boss makes contact with key signing to ease exit concerns

The new head coach and player have exchanged messages.

New boss Cesar Peixoto has contacted Kieran Trippier and assured him he remains a major part of his plan at Wolves.

Trippier became the club’s first signing of the summer earlier this month, just days before Rob Edwards was sacked and replaced by Peixoto.

Edwards had played a major role in persuading Trippier to step down to the Championship after leaving Newcastle and the shock nature of his exit even prompted reports the 35-year-old right-back was reconsidering the move.

But such a step was always highly unlikely and it is believed Peixoto has spoken to the former England international to explain his plans for Wolves and ease any concerns.

Trippier will report to Compton Park with the rest of the squad when Wolves return for pre-season training early next month.

The former England international posted pictures of himself training in Mallorca on Thursday and will be expected to play a key role in helping the club make a swift return to the Premier League following relegation.

Though Peixoto is still awaiting a work permit before he can officially start at Compton Park, the 46-year-old has wasted no time in contacting senior players to give them an idea of his plans moving forward.

The new head coach sees pre-season as vital to implementing his methods though Wolves, who did not finish their Premier League campaign until late May, are likely to return later than many of their Championship rivals.

Peixoto met with Jackson in Portugal earlier this week, with the club’s transfer strategy on the agenda.

Outgoings are also a key focus with the future of several players unlikely to be decided until after the World Cup.

Wolves, meanwhile, could be set for a welcome windfall should former winger Chiquinho move this summer, just a year after leaving Molineux on a free transfer.

Reports in Portugal have claimed the 26-year-old is a target for Sporting Lisbon after enjoying a career resurgence at Alverca.

Chiquinho made only 11 appearances in three-and-a-half years at Wolves after suffering a serious knee injury just six months after arriving at Molineux from Estoril.

He was allowed to leave for nothing last year but the deal with Alverca included a 50 per cent sell-on clause which could now benefit Wolves.

Alverca are believed to be demanding around £8million for the wideman’s signature.
