Nathan Leonard hailed the performance of his Newtown players despite missing out on a place in the last four of the league cup against Airbus.

Jamie Hyne fired them into a first half lead - but having conceded late in the first period they shipped two further second half goals.

Leonard, who has laid into his Newtown side during their recent bad form, was delighted with that he saw from his side.

He said: "I thought we did really well in the first half, we tweaked the shape a bit and we've had time to work on a couple of things.

"The lads did tremendous today, they took on the information we gave them and they were good in and out of possession.

"We scored a great goal and then we scored at a really poor time, it was 45 minutes plus five, it was the last kick of the half and it is never really a good time to concede.

"That gave them a bit of a bounce in their step and they scored straight away in the second half and it was difficult then.

"We probably ran out of steam and we have got the squad to make changes, and if you look at the players they are bringing on they are top players.

"Massive respect to Airbus they are a really good team and I wish them all best in the last four, hopefully it is between them, Guilsfield and Buckley, and we hope it is one of them to win the cup for the league.

"We edged the first half just, but they are a few other bits and we conceded at the wrong times. I have had a couple of uncomfortable interviews recently but I can say today I am proud of them, the work rate and effort, and it was a good performance."
