Jude Bellingham breaks record as England end World Cup with victory
The 23-year-old has enjoyed an excellent summer.
Jude Bellingham became the top England scorer ever at a single World Cup after netting late in Saturday’s chaotic bronze medal match with France.
The Stoubridge-born star became the first English player to score seven goals at a tournament when he slotted home in stoppage time to seal a 6-4 win for Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions.
Bellingham had been level with both Gary Lineker, who scored six times in 1986, and team-mate Harry Kane, who hit the same mark in 2018 and this summer.
But the late strike against France put him out on his own and capped what, on an individual level, has been a superb tournament for the Real Madrid man.
England’s win secured their best finish at a World Cup since 1966 and though huge disappointment still remains, following their semi-final defeat to Argentina, Bellingham found positives in finishing on a victory.
Posting on social media, he wrote: “This group deserved to finish on this high note. Obviously not what we came for but the highest finish since ‘66 is something to build on.
“Thank you again England fans, this summer has been unforgettable for so many reasons. It’s been a pleasure!”
