'What a statement': Wolves fans react with shock over Andre contract news

He dropped a hint about his Wolves future in April - and he has stayed true to his word.

Wolves midfielder Andre had already hinted that he could well stay at Wolves despite the club playing Championship football next season.

The midfielder, signed for £18.5m back in 2024, was one player many fans expected to depart the club this summer.

But he stirred up discussions among the fanbase back in April with comments on a gaming platform, when he said: “I play for here for 3,4,5 more years, I have no problem. I love it here.”

Despite that, many fans still expected him to leave - so they were left in shock on Friday when the club confirmed he had penned a new four year deal.

Rob Edwards and chairman Nathan Shi explained that Andre had been in discussions over staying at the club - and technical director Matt Jackson insisted Andre had been ‘a man of his word’.

Wolves fans have reacted with surprise, with one simply saying: “How have we managed to do that?” Elsewhere, another added: “Wow. Did not expect that, fair play to the lad.”

Another stated: “Might be the strangest thing that’s happened all season. And that’s saying a lot.”

And many Wolves fans believe it is a big early statement from the club ahead of next season.

One said: “Huge! This is fantastic news!! What a statement,” while another added: “He stayed true to his word, we genuinely have Andre in the Championship.”

The news has emerged just days after former striker Raul Jimenez opened the door to a possible return to the club in an exclusive interview with the Express & Star.

It is understood that there have been early conversations between Wolves and Jimenez over a potential return to the club.

And the Express & Star also exclusively revealed that Wolves have held talks with out of contract Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier.

The 35-year-old will become a free agent in the coming weeks when his contract at Newcastle expires, with the Magpies already confirming Trippier will leave the club and not sign a new deal.

Wolves are set for a squad rebuild this summer with a number of players likely to depart and several new faces expected to arrive.

The club have been in talks with several free agents as they seek to make early additions and it is understood there have been talks with Trippier over a potential deal.
