‘Sorry’ - Hwang Hee-chan’s emotional message to Wolves fans
Hwang Hee-chan says Wolves’ players must accept responsibility for the club’s relegation.
Hwang Hee-chan has apologised to Wolves supporters and admitted the players must “take responsibility” following the club’s bitter relegation campaign.
The curtain will come down on Wolves’ dismal season on Sunday, when they travel to fellow relegated side Burnley looking to avoid finishing bottom of the Premier League table.
Hwang is among those likely to leave Wolves this summer, despite being under contract until 2028.
Asked for his message to supporters, the 30-year-old said: “To be honest, sorry for that. We tried everything, and me too. It's difficult.”
He added: “It’s a little bit of a shame, the result is not what we expected. We tried to push in many games, for a long time, we always tried to change the momentum and vibe, but we didn’t.
“It is a shame. It is our responsibility and we have to take responsibility as players.”
The South Korea international has made more than 100 Premier League appearances since joining Wolves in 2021, scoring 19 goals.
He signed a new long-term deal in December 2023 after scoring nine goals before Christmas under Gary O’Neil, finishing that season with 12 league goals.
But Hwang has struggled since, scoring only four league goals across the last two campaigns combined.

He was recently named in South Korea’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, though his Wolves future remains uncertain.
Asked about a possible exit, Hwang said: “I don’t know. I didn’t think about it, I want to finish this season. We still have a chance to win the next game, the last game.”
Hwang registered an assist in Wolves’ final home game last weekend, setting up Mateus Mane at Molineux in what could prove to be his final contribution in front of the home fans.
A major squad overhaul is expected this summer under Rob Edwards.
This weekend, Edwards’ side have the chance to climb off the foot of the Premier League table - a position they have occupied since the end of August
“We want to finish well,” said Hwang. “We don’t want to finish bottom of the league.
“We still have a chance to win and I believe in my team and my boys. If I play I will give, as always, 100 per cent.”
