Exclusive: Wolves in talks for former England defender

Wolves have opened talks with the defender.

Wolves are in talks to sign defender Kieran Trippier this summer, the Express & Star understands.

The 35-year-old will become a free agent in the coming weeks when his contract at Newcastle expires, with the Magpies already confirming Trippier will leave the club and not sign a new deal.

Wolves are set for a squad rebuild this summer with a number of players likely to depart and several new faces expected to arrive.

The club have been in talks with several free agents as they seek to make early additions and it is understood there have been talks with Trippier over a potential deal.

However, the former England international also has several other clubs showing interest and giving Wolves intense competition for his signature.

Trippier has extensive experience at a number of clubs, including Spurs, Atletico Madrid and Newcastle, who he joined in 2022.

Primarily a right-back, he has also played at left-back and is well known for his set pieces - following a stunning free-kick goal against Croatia in the 2018 World Cup semi-finals, in a game England eventually lost 2-1.

Wolves have also had talks with other free agents including Dan Neil and James Tavernier, while early conversations have been had regarding a stunning return for Raul Jimenez.
