Wolves boss Cesar Peixoto makes West Brom style point after derby day success
The Wolves boss was asked what he thought about the way Albion approached the Black Country derby.
Boss Cesar Peixoto reckons Sunday’s derby success was more about what Wolves did well than Albion failing to turn up.
The Black Country bragging rights stayed with the Molineux hosts thanks to Fer Lopez’s winner five minutes into the second half in a one-sided affair in favour of Wolves.
James Morrison’s Baggies failed to lay a glove on their hosts despite heading into the showdown higher in the Championship standings. A deserved victory sees Wolves and Albion head into an extended three-week international break in fourth and fifth respectively.
Lopez’s winner came after a nightmare error from Albion’s Nat Phillips in trying to play the ball in his own penalty box, something the new-look Baggies have done regularly in a bright start to the season under Morrison.
Asked if he was surprised by Albion’s style and performance, Peixoto said: “No, I think West Brom tried to play like they have played in all of the games before and no different.
“We knew and analysed West Brom well. They are a good team and played well with a good start.
“But we did not them play like they wanted, because we had a good organisation, intensity, we won our duels.
“We were brave to press high and we played with courage. We played with quality.
“It was more about our good things than the worse things of them. Because they tried to do their things like they did in the games before.”
The Wolves head coach added: “We knew the importance this game has to our supporters, we wanted to win for our supporters and ourselves.
“It is an important derby and West Brom is a good team. They had more points than us. I like the way we played. When we had to press high we pressed, we played with quality when we had to and when we had to suffer we did, and we deserved to win.”
