West Brom set for double fitness boost for survival run-in - but Millwall comes too soon

Baggies pair have been out for months with hamstring injuries but are close to a return.

Albion duo Karlan Grant and Chris Mepham are nearing a return to contention after lengthy injury lay-offs.

Attacker Grant has not featured since a serious hamstring injury in the opening moments of the 1-1 draw at Derby County on January 23. He has missed the 13 matches since.

But Grant trained with Baggies colleagues for the first time on Thursday and is pencilled in for a return to matchday duties on Saturday week away to Preston in the Championship.

Friday night’s home clash against promotion-hunting Millwall comes too soon for Grant, but head coach James Morrison is optimistic the long-serving attacker will soon be back to make an impact.

The upcoming clash against the high-flying Lions also comes too soon for centre-back Mepham, who has been sidelined for 11 matches since his hamstring injury late in a goalless home draw with Stoke on February 7.

Mepham is also back in full training and set to be available for the trip to Deepdale on April 18.

“Karlan Grant is in his first day back training, so hopefully he'll be available in the squad for Preston, all being well,” Morrison said in his press conference on Thursday afternoon.

“Chris Mepham is training, he might just need a little bit longer, so hopefully he's back for Preston.”

Morrison also provided a new update on attacking midfielder Tammer Bany, who has played just a handful of minutes for his club all season.

Albion are taking extra care Bany, 22, and are aiming for a potential return to availability at home to Ipswich on the penultimate weekend of the Championship campaign.

Forgotten man Bany underwent surgery on a thigh injury around the turn of the year.

Jordan international Bany is hopeful of going to the World Cup with his nation this summer. He has featured more for the Middle Eastern country than Albion this term.

His sole action for the Baggies came in a stoppage-time cameo from the bench in the 3-1 defeat at QPR on December 6 - one of just five substitute appearances since his £3.3million move from Randers in Denmark in January 2025.
