Mark Miles confirms how club intend to back 'competitive' West Brom under James Morrison

One of Albion’s senior staff members confirms clearer picture where it comes to finances this summer.

Executive director Mark Miles confirmed Albion‘s financial picture will brighten from this summer as the club vow to back the newly-appointed head coach James Morrison.

The Baggies will look to strengthen from a healthy position this summer having staved off Championship relegation and rewarded caretaker boss Morrison with a two-year contract.

Albion survived despite an English Football League sanction for a financial profit and sustainability (P&S) breach - with the decision on whether to appeal a points deduction still pending.

But as the rolling three-year financial cycle continues, Albion view their forecast as much healthier for the summer leading into 2026/27. The Shilen Patel Bilkul-run club will support Morrison in squad building as much as possible and with fewer regulation restriction concerns.

“From James’ point of view he has unanimously got our support all the way through,” Miles said.

“Clearly we’ve got a season of change with bringing in players and I think the great thing about Mozza’s appointment now is we can start with that and start working it through.

“We’ve got some players out of contract and the conversation about those will be ongoing through the process.

“Despite the PSR sanction we had, we have got a good backing and good footrest from now.

“We can obviously back and recruit players so we can have a competitive season next year.”

Albion were found guilty of breaching the EFL’s £39.5million loss limit in three years by less than £2m. The club maintain innocence.

The Baggies intend to move on and improve from an extremely poor campaign and become competitive in the second tier again.

Miles added: “We’re through the worst and we’re moving to an improved financial position from a P&S perspective now.

“Clearly we will make our best efforts to make the squad as competitive as possible and our backing will be there for the right players.”

The executive director, who returned in February after five months away, said: “It’s been a test on and off the field but certainly the way we finished the season under James we are pleased to get where we are.

“We have to look forward now and we’re really pleased to have James here as head coach. The future is bright and we can start the preparation now.

“This is a great club and really important to me and James. Over the last couple of months we’ve seen the importance of togetherness. James and the staff have managed to galvanise a whole club and got out of a tricky situation.”
