James Morrison outlines West Brom's need in the transfer window

There are six weeks of the summer transfer window remaining.

Head coach James Morrison underlined Albion’s need for wingers and said the club are working to fill the void.

The Baggies’ squad is lacking any available senior width and Morrison admitted it is the department he sees as most needing strengthened.

Jed Wallace was released at the end of his contract and Karlan Grant has also decided to not renew at The Hawthorns. Mikey Johnston remains at the club but did not travel to the Portugal training camp as he continues to recover from a long-term injury.

“Well, obviously, we need to get some wingers in,” Morrison told the Express & Star, with Albion’s campaign now three Saturdays’ away.

“We haven't got one at the moment. But there's a lot of work going on behind the scenes. So I'm pretty comfortable.

“And we're all working together to get the right players in, at the right time. We have to be a little bit smart and patient.”

Isaac Price, who can play from the left, occupied the position in Friday’s 4-1 victory over Bromley in Portugal.

Academy graduate Harry Whitwell, naturally a central player, started on the right.

Prospect Ollie Bostock, 19, is an option and was bright with his cameo in the Algarve as he set up the late fourth.

An extended World Cup, which drew to a climax on Sunday night, has been pointed to elsewhere as behind a delay in transfer business, and Morrison agrees.

While the Scot would prefer incomings sooner rather than later, he knows it is a game of patience.

“I've heard different managers speak,” he added. “And they're saying the same thing. We're all in the same position, it looks.

“Yes - but that’s just the manage, you want everything now, so you have time to work, but it's not as easy as that.

“Like I say, again, you've just got to be patient for the right one.”
