Town's Mark Ellis puts emotion aside in title push

Self-confessed Plymouth fan Mark Ellis is ready to sink his boyhood club to ensure Shrewsbury win the League Two title.

The commanding centre-back, who has featured 34 times for Town in their promotion season, grew up in Devon and has been a Pilgrims fan ever since.

But the 26-year-old knows he can't let emotion to get the better of him when Micky Mellon's side look to wrap up the title at Greenhous Meadow on Saturday.

Town need to beat Plymouth and hope Burton fail to win at Cambridge in order to claim the silverware. And Ellis has warned he will be doing everything he can to beat the club he has grown up supporting.

"Our season didn't end when we beat Cheltenham to win promotion," he said.

"We have a massive chance of being able to win the title and we are all ready to go out and win it.

"It's going to be a strange one for me, Plymouth Argyle are the team I supported as a kid.

"I always will support them but I'm so proud to now be a Shrewsbury player and be part of this team.

"I want to win and I'll be doing everything I can to make sure we do. All of us are desperate for the title and everything is still to play for."

Ellis, a summer arrival from Crewe, had to drop down a level when he joined Town from The Railwaymen back in May.

But the defender always felt good things were about to happen at Greenhous Meadow.

"It was definitely a calculated gamble," he said.

"I knew a bit about the club and I also played against them last season.

"I initially got a call from (assistant manager) Mike Jackson and after speaking to him it was a no-brainer to sign. Then I got to meet Micky and since then he has been fantastic with me. He's a really top manager."
