'Take a bow': Ex-Shrewsbury Town captain John Marquis praised for classy post-match act
John Marquis has earned praise after helping Fulham’s academy prospects.
Former Shrewsbury Town captain John Marquis has been praised for his efforts to help the next generation.
Fulham’s academy shared a video on social media showing Marquis offering one of the club’s young centre-backs advice and tips after a game.
Marquis has been training and playing with the Professional Footballers’ Association's free agent pre-season training camp as he searches for a new club following his release by Salop this summer. The PFA side recently faced Fulham’s academy and ran out 2-1 winners.
Marquis and fellow free-agent forward Connor Wickham, formerly of Sunderland and Crystal Palace among others, were praised for taking the time to pass on advice and share their experience with Fulham’s young defenders.
A post from Fulham Academy said: “Offering advice to our youngsters (applause emoji).
“Connor Wickham and John Marquis from the PFA team gave tips to our young centre-backs after the game today.”
Both Marquis and Wickham received praise across social media for their actions.
Shrewsbury’s head of medical performance, Chris Skitt, was among those to commend Marquis in response to the post.

He wrote “John Marquis is an absolute top man and someone I’m proud to call a friend!
“One of the most professional people I have had the pleasure of working with and genuinely wants people to improve! Take a bow John!”
Marquis was released by Shrewsbury at the end of last season, bringing to an end a two-year spell at the club. The 34-year-old captained Salop during that time.
