Shrewsbury Town's Ismeal Kabia wins League Two goal of the month for stunning strike

Kabia’s stunning long-range strike for Town against Fleetwood has been voted League Two goal of the month for April.

Ismeal Kabia’s wondergoal in Shrewsbury Town’s final home game of the season has won League Two’s goal of the month award.

It is hardly surprising that Kabia’s late rocket, which dramatically salvaged a draw against Fleetwood Town, was selected for the honour.

Just days after scoring the stunning strike - in what proved to be his final appearance for the club this season while on loan from Arsenal - Kabia also picked up Shrewsbury’s goal of the season award.

The 20-year-old won the League Two goal of the month prize for April, with winners decided by a panel of experts alongside a public vote.

Among the judges was Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, who said: “Ismeal Kabia showed good defensive awareness to stop a Fleetwood counter-attack and then what happened next was out of this world.

“He unleashed a first-time effort from a good 30 yards out and the keeper could only watch as it flew into the top corner…absolutely brilliant!”

Kabia beat competition from Oldham Athletic’s Josh Hawkes, Tranmere Rovers’ Jayden Joseph and Grimsby Town’s Maldini Kacurri.

With the clock ticking down in Town’s final outing at the Croud Meadow and Salop seemingly heading for defeat, Kabia produced a moment that will live long in the memory.

Positioned just outside the penalty area after dropping back to help defend a Fleetwood break, he was then presented with a shooting opportunity from distance. What followed was sublime.

The Arsenal loanee unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top-right corner, leaving opposition players, supporters, team-mates - and even Kabia himself - stunned, before jubilant celebrations followed.

It proved a fitting finale to Town’s home campaign, and a memorable conclusion to Kabia’s loan spell with the club.
