Shrewsbury Town unveil striking new stadium graphics for anniversary celebrations

Iconic memories and club legends have been celebrated in Shrewsbury Town’s new stadium graphics.

Several large-scale graphics have been installed around Shrewsbury Town’s stadium as part of the club’s 140th anniversary celebrations.

The new displays, situated in the apexes of the stands, include tributes to coracle legend Fred Davies and Graham Turner’s Third Division title-winning side of 1978/79.

The stadium enhancements form part of the club’s celebrations throughout the season, which also include commemorative kits.

Supporters were given the opportunity to vote for their favourite images from a selection of iconic moments in the club’s history.

Announcing the project, the club said the giant corner graphics, located in the apex of the stands, are intended to “strengthen the stadium’s identity and atmosphere”.

The West Stand features League Two promotion celebrations alongside Turner’s legendary side, which secured promotion to the Second Division for the first time in the club’s history. More than 14,000 supporters packed Gay Meadow in 1979 to watch Shrewsbury clinch promotion with a 4-1 victory over Exeter City.

Other graphics include Jon Nolan celebrating his stunning strike against Charlton Athletic in the 2018 League One play-off semi-final, a tribute to coracle man Fred Davies, who spent more than four decades retrieving footballs from the River Severn at Gay Meadow, and an image of Mickey Brown during Salop’s ‘Great Escape’ at Exeter in 2000.
