Shrewsbury Town new boy Steve McGinn out to impress

Shrewsbury Town?loan capture Steve McGinn hopes he can revive his career at the Greenhous Meadow.

The Watford midfielder, 24, hasn't played at senior level since suffering cruciate ligament damage against Doncaster on February 26 2011.

After undergoing knee reconstruction surgery he spent a year on the sidelines, but the promise he'd previously demonstrated in making 42 appearances for the Vicarage Road outfit was enough to secure him a fresh two-year contract last summer.

McGinn, who has won eight under-21 caps for Scotland, has returned to fitness to feature at reserve-team level with the Championship side, although he has struggled to break into Gianfranco Zola's first-team plans.

"Since I've returned there's been a new management team in at Watford and quite a lot of new players so it's been difficult to get back in," said the Glaswegian, who has signed on loan with Salop until the end of the season.

"I'm hoping this loan can get my career back on track as you can only play so many reserve games. It's on a Saturday when you're playing for points that you're judged. League One is a good league and I've been very impressed with the standard of training here."

McGinn was recommended by fellow Watford midfielder John Eustace, who spent time on loan under Graham Turner at Hereford.

The Town boss said: "Stephen's a good midfielder with a good eye for a pass and he can chip in with some important goals."

Turner's efforts to add a third new face to his squad appear to have floundered after he failed to agree terms with a player, one of several on his January list of targets.

"It's not down to lack of effort on our part, but there comes a stage when you have to draw a line in the sand and move on to the next player," said Turner, who was due to take his side to second-bottom Scunthorpe today.

"You can go on giving players what they want but sooner or later you've got to say no."
