Liam Boyce again on Shrewsbury Town radar

Northern Ireland goal machine Liam Boyce has emerged again on Shrewsbury Town's radar.

The 22-year-old striker hit 34 goals to help Cliftonville to the league title while he was also feted with several player of the year awards in his native Ulster last term.

Salop had Boyce on their scouting list during the January transfer window as boss Graham Turner looked pep up his goal-shy attack.

But the Irish club's chairman Gerard Lawlor was reluctant to lose his prize asset, as the Belfast outfit closed in on their first title in 15 years.

Now he could be encouraged to part with the frontman who is understood to want another crack at full-time football.

He was the subject of a stunning move to Bundesliga giants Werder Bremen when he just 19, after the Germans were alerted by his earlier scoring exploits in the Irish League.

He rejoined Cliftonville a year ago after only featuring occasionally in B team football during his stay on the continent.

Since then his goals have ensured a stellar season with an Irish League Cup triumph and cup final appearance adding to his club's board of honour.

Turner will be in the market for two new forwards this summer after his side struggled for goals in League One and a series of departures.

Terry Gornell, a regular scorer during the League Two promotion campaign, was sold to Rochdale.

And neither Marvin Morgan, who was released at the end of the term, nor Tom Bradshaw made an impact on the scoring charts.

It was left to Bolton prospect Tom Eaves to offer a the most consistent goal threat during his brief loan spell at the Greenhous Meadow.

While Boyce is unproven in the Football League, with a year left on his contract, the fee may only be around the £50,000 mark.

But Scottish Premier outfit Hibernian and League One newcomers Rotherham are also understood to be in pursuit of the Northern Ireland under-21 international.
