Kian McMahon-Brown explains why he chose Shrewsbury Town

The 18-year-old revealed why Shrewsbury Town is the ‘right place’ for his next step.

New boy Kian McMahon-Brown believes Shrewsbury Town is the perfect place to take the next step in his career.

The 18-year-old has joined Town from Burnley on the first loan of his career after impressing in the Championship club’s academy.

McMahon-Brown is highly rated at the Clarets, where he was named academy player of the year last season before signing his first professional contract this summer.

Upon joining Salop, he said: “It’s been a long process, but we got there in the end. I’m delighted to be here.

“I feel like now it’s the right step to come and play senior football. I feel like this is the right place to be, and hopefully we can push on from here.”

The teenager was involved in Burnley’s pre-season tour of the United States after scoring 11 goals for their under-21s last season, despite playing above his age group, and a further five for the under-18s.

“It was a good experience,” McMahon-Brown added. “It’s something you need, to be around the first team.

“Now it’s time to get out, more experience with senior lads, and hopefully push on and see where we can go.

“I have played under-21s for just over a year now, so I feel like it’s the right step to come and play senior football in League Two.”

McMahon-Brown also scored a sensational backheel to help Burnley’s youngsters win the Premier League Cup in May and boasts international pedigree, having represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, including at the Under-17 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 18-year-old trained with Town on Monday after completing his season-long loan move and is excited about what lies ahead.

He said: “I had a good conversation with the manager. He was just really positive about the club, the fans, the players.

“I feel like this is the right place for my playing style and where he sees he’s going to play me.

“It was a positive conversation of where he sees me playing, a striker and in the 10. At the end of the day it’s down to me to get myself into the team.”

The versatile forward believes his best position is as a striker, but says he can also operate as a false nine or number 10. He will wear the number 18 shirt for Shrewsbury.
