Katie Doster stars as Shrewsbury Town Women make it three straight wins

Shrewsbury Town Women thrashed Coventry Sphinx on Sunday.

Katie Doster smashed four goals as Shrewsbury Town continued their winning run in emphatic fashion.

Town made it three consecutive West Midlands Premier victories with a crushing 5-0 win over Coventry Sphinx on Sunday.

The result was Shrewsbury’s second clean sheet in those three wins, while their 14 goals across the victories have lifted them to third in the standings.

“It was superb, a really professional performance,” said boss Dean Craven.

“I thought the girls were class. They did exactly what we asked them to do.”

Doster took her tally to eight goals for the season with a stunning four-goal display, while Jess Edwards added the fifth late on.

“She is a great person and a great player,” Craven said of Doster.

“Everyone loves her, she is superb and one of the top players in this league. She is a brilliant finisher and was absolutely superb today.”

The three successive wins represent a superb response to Shrewsbury’s nightmare start, when they suffered a 6-1 defeat to Redditch Borough.

While delighted with his side’s attacking display, Craven was equally pleased with the defensive performance.

“I loved the determination and professionalism,” he added. “They were all talking right to the final minute, they did not want to let any goals in. And I love that.

“Coventry weren’t a bad side, they came and really had a go at us. I thought the defence was superb. Doster will get all of the plaudits, of course because she was awesome, but the back four were superb.”
