Gavin Cowan hints at ‘possibly three’ more Shrewsbury Town signings

The Shrewsbury Town boss has provided a fresh update on the club’s transfer plans as preparations for the new season continue.

Shrewsbury Town remain in the market for further signings, with boss Gavin Cowan hinting at ‘possibly three’ more arrivals before the transfer window closes.

Salop have made eight additions this summer as Cowan continues to shape his squad ahead of the new campaign.

However, it has been more than two weeks since Town’s most recent signing, while the club is operating under a transfer fee restriction, meaning they can only bring in players on loan.

Cowan has already stated his desire to add a number 10 and a striker before the deadline, but suggested there could also be room for another arrival.

Asked whether he hoped to strengthen further before next Saturday’s competitive opener, he said: “Of course. I know the club are doing everything possible for me. We have certain regulations that we have to answer to.

“Obviously, there’s movement in and out of the football club. It’s not as simple as what people think, we can’t just go out and get people.

“I’m working really hard to get people in the building - the club are on board with doing that.

“We just have to go through certain channels of how we’re going to work it. We have to meet certain regulations.

“We’re all working together to try and get the best possible squad. For me, two more players in the building, possibly three, depending on the relationships we can get with clubs at a high level, possibly three, can really put us in a really good place.”
