Boss has big hopes for Shrewsbury Town’s latest arrival Kian McMahon-Brown

Boss Gavin Cowan is excited by Shrewsbury Town’s latest signing.

Shrewsbury Town boss Gavin Cowan wants to help new loan signing Kian McMahon-Brown fulfil his “really high ceiling”.

The 18-year-old became Town’s 10th signing of the summer window after joining on a season-long loan from Championship side Burnley.

The Republic of Ireland youth international can play as an attacking midfielder or striker and heads to Salop for his first loan spell and taste of the EFL.

Cowan said: “Kian is a really exciting player.

“He’s young, this is his first loan, but he’s a player with a lot of potential and a really high ceiling.

“He’s a youth international striker and Burnley have very high hopes for him - they see him as a player with a bright future.

“From our perspective, we want to help him realise that potential.

“He gives us versatility as well because he can play as a nine, but he can also drop into that 10 position.

“We’re looking forward to working with him and helping him take the next step.”

McMahon-Brown was named Burnley’s academy player of the season before signing his first professional contract earlier this summer.

The teenager has been with Burnley since under-14 level and enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, scoring 11 goals for the under-21s despite playing above his age group.

He signed a two-year deal with Burnley this summer and was involved in the first team’s pre-season tour of the United States.
