The ex-Shrewsbury Town striker who played a key role in Michael Golding’s loan switch
A familiar face helped Shrewsbury land the Leicester youngster on a season-long loan.
A former Shrewsbury Town striker played a key role in Michael Golding’s loan move to the club from Leicester City.
Steve Morison, whose playing career ended with a spell at Salop in 2019, joined Leicester as loans manager ahead of the 2026/27 season, overseeing the club’s loan programme and academy player development.
Morison played a big part in Golding’s season-long switch to Shrewsbury - something Town boss Gavin Cowan was quick to acknowledge.
He said: “We are really appreciative to Steve Morison at Leicester and the guys there for facilitating the deal. They’ve been an absolute class act.
“I’m really excited to have him on board. It’s another attacking option that we absolutely need.”
Golding’s move to Shrewsbury, completed on Friday, is the first loan of the 20-year-old’s career.
He was then named among the substitutes for Salop’s League Two victory over Salford City on Saturday.
Morison played just shy of 700 games in all competitions during an impressive playing career before moving into coaching.

Nine of those appearances came for Shrewsbury during the opening months of the 2019/20 season, before he announced his retirement in October 2019 and began his coaching career at the academy of his first club, Northampton Town.
Morison has since held coaching and managerial roles with Cardiff City, Hornchurch and Sutton United, where he left in September last year, before taking up his position at Leicester.
