Shrewsbury Town defender hopes Salford win can kick-start season

Luca Hoole reveals what Shrewsbury Town’s players were saying to each other before their Salford win.

Defender Luca Hoole hopes Shrewsbury Town can kick on after claiming their first League Two win of the season.

The 24-year-old helped Salop keep their first clean sheet of the campaign as skipper Will Boyle stepped up to score the decisive goal in Saturday’s victory over Salford City.

After a testing start to the new campaign, Hoole hopes Town can build on getting off the mark in the league.

“The first win is massive, we almost had to just get it off our backs,” he told the Shropshire Star.

“People were starting to say, ‘One game you don’t win’, then that turns into two games. It’s like, ‘OK, we need to make sure now, lads, we need to win this game.’ I’m glad we did.

“Hopefully, this is the platform now to build on and we can push on this season, keep putting in those performances and pick up a lot more points.”

Town had conceded 10 goals in their opening four games of the season but were resilient and resolute to keep the door shut against the Ammies.

Hoole featured at right wing-back, rather than in central defence, in the win and hailed the defensive contributions of his team-mates.

“The clean sheet’s massive,” he added. “Everyone’s been speaking to each other saying we need to make sure that we shore it up in defence, and that always gives us a chance then to go and score one like we did.

“The clean sheet’s massive and hopefully we can build on that now.”
