Curtis Tilt likely to stay at AFC Telford

AFC Telford United defender Curtis Tilt is "more than likely" to remain at the New Bucks Head next season – after being part of a record-breaking back line.

Tilt, who arrived with bosses Rob Smith and Larry Chambers from Hednesford, has won plaudits with his impressive defending.

The Bucks reeled off their fifth successive clean sheet – a record for the new club.

Saturday's 0-0 draw at Nuneaton made it the longest run without conceding since the old Telford United in 1994-95.

Football League scouts have watched giant stopper Tilt, but the defender wants to reward the Bucks bosses for their faith in him.

Tilt said: "Yes I will be a part of what Rob and Larry are doing – I signed for them at Hednesford and I've come to Telford and stuck by them.

"At the moment, I'll stick with them for as long as I can. They're 'good cop, bad cop' – one's moody and the other's OK, and then they swap.

"I don't really get involved with that side (speculation) of the game. I'm on contract at Telford until the end of the season.

"If something comes up from the League or the Conference I'll have to look at it, if not I'm going to stay with Rob and Larry, more than likely."

Tilt is delighted Telford have managed to pull themselves out of trouble in National League North.

He also added Telford can realistically be looking at promotion to the National League under boss Smith next term.

He said: "It's been an embarrassing season from the start and it's only just picking up. Telford need to be in and around the play-offs and pushing to be back in the Conference.

"Now we're winning all the lads have smiles on their faces, we're more of a team, everyone talks to each other and there's great banter."

Meanwhile, Smith has vowed to pick a strong team for tomorrow night's Shropshire Senior Cup final against Shrewsbury Town at Greenhous Meadow. Kick-off is at 7.30pm.
