The reigning Premier Division champions are sitting top of the table with just two games remaining following a tense Bank Holiday Monday success at home to Allscott Heath.

After Saturday's programme was completely washed out by the rain, Wellington edged to a two-wicket victory in their catch-up fixture to move eight points clear of Quatt.

St Georges, who play Quatt in their final league game, are three points further behind in third place.

Allscott went into Monday’s clash still in the title mix but the defeat leaves them 24 points behind Wellington.

After winning the toss, Wellington opted to field and an impressive bowling display led by Joshua McDonald and Matt Simmonds saw them bowl their visitors out for 133.

McDonald just shaded the individual honours with figures of 5-26 from 7.2 overs while Simmonds took 4-26 from 10 overs.

Opener Maisam Hasnain Jaffri top-scored for Allscott with 45.

But life at the crease was just as uncomfortable for the Wellington batters thanks to a fine spell from Luke Thornton.

He took all five wickets as the hosts slipped to 55-5. Simmonds added a valuable 37 before becoming Thornton’s sixth victim with the score on 99. But Hugh Morris (18 not out) and McDonald (14) helped get Wellington over the line.
