Wrockites retain the Ashton Cup in a thrilling final
All the latest action from across the county’s bowling greens.
Ashton Cup holders Wrockwardine Wood C overcame a 70-shot handicap to retain the trophy on finals night at Newport.

Their thrilling 10-a-side tussle with Allscott Heath E ended in a three-chalk victory so they remain the knockout kings among the teams in the Molson Coors Mid Shropshire Bowling League’s Monday divisions.
It all came done to Sean Keeshan as last on for the Wrockites at 17-11 up and needing to win at least 15. Minutes later he had held on for a 21-12 card and the Saturday celebrations could begin.
Rowan Fuller (21-6) and Owen Cherrington (21-9) gave Wood a fast start but Allscott’s battling seventh division side were right in it when Paul Tanner became their only winner at No. 8 with a 21-17 success.
But they could not quite hold on as Wood’s Tim Trehearne took the player of the match award for his 21-13 win at ninth on in front of a big crowd around the No.1 green.

Over on the No.2 Shifnal C won the Ashton Shield for the first time by 29 shots against Sinclair C, never trailing once Christopher Williams won 21-9 at No.1.
Sinclair’s Graham Deakin took the player award after 18 from 17-0 and 20-4 down in the middle four, but Paul Bissett’s 21-5 card at the same time ensured Shifnal were home and dry.
