Step back to 1962 and see Shropshire as it looked more than 60 years ago.
From quiet village streets and country lanes to busy town centres, schools, railway stations and workplaces, these photographs capture familiar places at a time when the county was beginning to change.
For some, they will bring back memories of childhood, old shops and places that have long since vanished; for others, they offer a glimpse of a Shropshire they never knew.

15. Meet Market Drayton's Carnival Queen of 1962
Seventeen-year-old Margaret Clarke, a shop assistant from Hinstock, was chosen as Market Drayton Carnival Queen at a dance at the Corbet Arms Hotel on July 6, 1962. 16. A quiet moment at Orleton Hall
The moat and gatehouse at Orleton Hall, Wellington, are pictured on June 30, 1962, during the annual garden party for Shropshire people who were homebound or disabled. Mrs Barbara Noakes found a peaceful spot beside the Moat House, while her son Richard paused to admire the reflection in the water. A gentle summer scene that captures more than just the grand surroundings. Can you imagine spending an afternoon here in 1962?
