57. A trip down memory lane at the top of Dawley High Street
Classic motor cars trundle past the junction of King Street and High Street in Dawley in this nostalgic street scene from the late 1960s. Standing prominently on the right is the Lord Hill public house, while the modern brick front of Barclays Bank anchors the left. Just in the distance along King Street, beyond where the Royal Cinema stood, the multi-storey residential flats built in 1964 peek over the skyline, marking the subtle dawn of the New Town era in East Shropshire. 58. Floral perfection as Miss Shropshire blooms at Shrewsbury Flower Show
Framed by vibrant dahlias and wearing a delightful crown of fresh blooms, Miss Shropshire 1964, Joan Taylor, poses at the world-famous Shrewsbury Flower Show in The Quarry. Pictured during her reign in August 1964, Joan was a star attraction at the county’s premier summer event, drawing crowds as she carried out her official duties amongst the prize-winning floral displays. The delightful photograph captures all the charm and elegance of a mid-1960s Shropshire summer. 59. Building the future alongside the past at Wombridge
New residential development takes shape at Wombridge in this fascinating landscape photograph taken on 10 January 1967. The image shows brand-new modern bungalows rising on unpaved roads near Priory Road (possibly Uplands Avenue today), set right alongside an old, weathered brick farm building. The striking contrast captures a rural parish in the middle of transformation as modern housing expanded across the East Shropshire landscape during the late 1960s. Do you remember when these Wombridge bungalows were first being built, or do you recall how the area looked before modern housing arrived? | Shropshire Star archive

60. Double top finish sparks friendly rivalry at Shrewsbury Drill Hall
Points are tallied in good humour as Sergeant Dan Powell (left), captain of the North Shropshire Squadron, Shropshire Yeomanry darts team, shows off his winning checkout to a jovial Sergeant Ted Grey at Shrewsbury Drill Hall in April 1963. Heading up 'B' Company KSLI from Oswestry, a theatrical Sergeant Grey looks on in comical dismay as Powell points out his final darts. The playful moment was captured during the annual Shropshire Territorial and Auxiliary Association darts and dominoes competitions, bringing together service personnel from across the county for an evening of friendly competition. Did you take part in the Territorial Army sports nights at Shrewsbury Drill Hall, or do you remember Sergeant Dan Powell and Sergeant Ted Grey from the 1960s? | Shropshire Star archive
