Village pub near Oswestry up for sale after failed community purchase bid
The pub closed in October 2024
A pub in a village near Shropshire’s border with Wales has gone up for sale after a failed bid from the community to buy it.
The Cross Guns in the village of Pant, near Oswestry, was operated by Admiral Taverns until it closed in October 2024.
Soon after its closure, villagers formed the Friends of Cross Guns to try and purchase the pub and transform it into a "vibrant community hub".

Earlier this year, the team attempted to raise £348,000 to prevent the pub - which was registered as a community asset in 2015 - from being put up for general sale.
But after raising just £75,000, the community bid failed in May - meaning the owners were given the green light to put it on the open market.
A spokesperson for the group said they always knew it would be “a big ask” for the small community, and said all investments would be returned.
The pub has now gone up for sale, having been listed by Sidney Phillips for £325,000.
