Former mayors to stand in Shrewsbury by-election
There will be a by-election following the resignation from the town council of Reform’s Harry Hancock-Davies
Two former Shrewsbury mayors are to run in a town by-election.
Elisabeth Addams has been selected as the Green Party candidate in Battlefield, while the Conservatives have put forward Becky Wall. The Liberal Democrat candidate is Kate Fejfer.
There will be a by-election following the resignation from the town council of Harry Hancock-Davies. The Reform UK member, who remains a Shropshire councillor, said increased work pressures meant he could not commit to both roles.
Ms Addams, who previously represented the adjacent Harlescott ward, said she is aware of important local issues.

"I love the amazing community that makes this area what it is," she said.
"My previous experience in the town council means I am ready to hit the ground running. I look forward to the opportunity to talk toas many people as possible and making sure their voices are heard."
Councillor Emma Micklewright (Greens, Radbrook) said: “The Green Party wants to give Battlefield residents an opportunity to elect someone who is passionate about this community and willing to serve it.
"Having previously been town councillor for the adjacent Harlescott ward, Elisabeth Addams has a proven track record of going above and beyond when it comes to supporting residents from housing issues, benefit problems, and the impact of drug crime, as well as chairing the town council for a year while she served as Mayor of Shrewsbury.
"She will put residents first and help to hold Shrewsbury Town Council’s Liberal Democrat administration to account."
Ms Wall, a former Battlefield councillor who was also Mayor of Shrewsbury, said: "Having previously represented this ward, I know how important it is to have a councillor who listens to residents, understands their concerns, and is prepared to put in the hard work to get things done.

“Being a town councillor is about more than attending meetings. It’s about being accessible, standing up for your community and making sure residents have someone they can turn to when they need help.
“My time as Mayor of Shrewsbury gave me the opportunity to champion accessibility and support important local and national charities. Those experiences reinforced my belief that local politics should always be about people and the difference we can make to their everyday lives.
“If elected, I will work hard to represent everyone in Battlefield, listen to their concerns, and make sure their voices are heard at Shrewsbury Town Council.
"I want residents to know they have a councillor who cares about this community and is willing to work tirelessly on their behalf.”
Last week, the Liberal Democrats confirmed that it is selected Kate Fejfer as its candidate.
