Telford company which makes mobile clinics and libraries lodges demolition plan
Torton Bodies wants to demolish two industrial sheds and redevelop the site with modern buildings
A long-established Telford company has announced plans to demolish two sheds at its factory site.
Torton Bodies, in Oakengates, creates bespoke mobile libraries, health clinics and exhibition trailers.
Now the company, based at Pilot Works, Holyhead Road, wants to demolish two industrial sheds and redevelop the site with modern buildings.
It has asked Telford & Wrekin Council if it has the right to demolish without applying for full planning permission.
Planning agent FocusArchitects, of Shifnal, has sent the council details of how the demolition work is set to proceed. There are residential properties neighbouring the site.
Work is due to start on November 1 and be completed before Christmas.

The buildings will be inspected but they are assumed to be steel-framed sheds with profiled metal cladding and a reinforced concrete slab/roof deck. There are concrete foundations and a concrete slab floor.
A pre-demolition survey will also be undertaken to identify hazardous materials, including an “appropriate asbestos survey where required”.
"The demolition will be undertaken in a controlled and systematic manner by a suitably experienced and competent demolition contractor," planners have been told.
Officials have been told that the building "will not be demolished by uncontrolled collapse”.
"The demolition contractor will prepare a task-specific demolition plan and risk assessment prior to commencing the works."
They are planning to carry out the work from 8am to 6pm from Monday to Friday and from 8am to 1pm on Saturday with no demolition to take place on Sundays or bank holidays.
The company's original name in 1938 was Pilot Caravans and it manufactured "high-quality caravans”.
But in 1961 it changed its name to Torton Bodies Limited and instigated a major change in its product range.
It now manufactures mobile exhibition units, mobile clinics, x-ray units, libraries and hospitality units.
Officials have launched a consultation to assess the proposals against planning policies.
