Inside Broseley’s oldest pub as it reopens after two-year closure

Broseley’s oldest pub has reopened its doors after a two-year closure, with its new manager promising to make it a welcoming hub for the local community.

Two years after it closed, the Grade II-listed Ironmaster pub in Broseley officially reopened to customers on October 9.

New manager and landlord, Harry Pattinson, 27, said he had grand plans to bring back traditional pub food, Sunday lunches and a programme of regular entertainment.

Originally from Chester, Harry began his career in hospitality aged 17 at a local Harvester, working his way up through the ranks before taking on management roles at several venues.

Before moving to Broseley, he managed The Holden in Colliers Wood. His previous experience also includes working in the O2 area, at Slug and Lettuce and at the Earl of Camden in Camden Town.

But he said he had already been made to feel at home in Broseley since taking over the 18th century pub - which is thought to be the town’s oldest surviving inn.

“Broseley is really lovely, everyone’s been very welcoming and I’m not too far from family,” he said.

“I’ve had a very warm welcome. All the locals are so glad to see the pub back open and especially happy to hear we’re launching food at the end of this week.”

The return of food will see the pub serve traditional pub grub alongside Sunday lunches, giving customers another reason to visit.

Harry also has plans to establish a regular programme of activities, with bingo due to start this week, alongside a weekly quiz, live entertainment and karaoke.

His aim is to create a venue that reflects the needs and interests of the people who live locally.

“I want it to be a community pub, where people come in and have a laugh and enjoy themselves,” he said.

“I want to it be whatever the local community needs it to be.”

As well as the pub itself, The Ironmaster is a bed and breakfast and has six bedrooms.

Harry said there was still work to do on parts of the property, including the garden, but improvements would be made gradually as the business grows.

The pub is open from noon until 10pm from Sunday to Thursday, and until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
