Van driver, 41, took cannabis before driving on busy A5 near Shrewsbury
He was also ordered to pay hundreds of pounds
A van driver who took cannabis before driving on the busy A5 has been banned from the road.
Christopher Gibson, aged 41, drove a Ford Transit on the busy carriageway near the Preston roundabout, Shrewsbury on March 27 this year.
A drugs test found Gibson had 4.9 micrograms of delta-9-THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, per litre of blood in his system. The legal limit, accounting for the possibility of accidental exposure, is 2mcg per litre.
Gibson, of Connemara Meadow, Horsehay, Telford, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to driving with a proportion of a controlled drug above the specified legal limit.
Magistrates banned Gibson from driving for 12 months and fined him £353.
Gibson was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £141 victim surcharge, bringing his total court bill to £579.
