'To say I'm sad is an understatement': Shrewsbury shop closes doors after four years

Store has shut down after more than four years in Wyle Cop as owner faces surgery

An independent florist in Shrewsbury town centre has closed its doors.

Botanique has shut after owner Lisa Peel announced that she had to undergo surgery.

The shop opened on Wyle Cop more than four and half years ago and sold a variety of flowers, plants and gifts for homes as well as for events and special occasions such as weddings and funerals.

Lisa started her career as a horticulturist and ran Botanique from Shrewsbury Market Hall for more than two years before moving to the shop in late 2021.

Posters put up in the unit thanked customers for their support and "making a little girl's dream come true".

Looking ahead, she told the Shropshire Star: "The next few months will be difficult but what I do know is that I can't sit still.

"Having worked for myself for over 15 years, working for someone else would be a challenge so, once life has calmed down and settled, I may well pop up somewhere."

She had previously announced the closure on social media, saying: "This is a post I never imagined I'd be writing and a life change I certainly didn't ask for.

"To say I'm sad is an understatement. Botanique has been such a happy time in my life and so many of you tell me it's your favourite shop in Shrewsbury.

"What I'll miss most isn't the shop itself - it's you. It's been an absolute privilege to be part of this community.

"Despite the stress, tears, and uncertainty behind the scenes, I'm choosing to keep smiling and be grateful for everything Botanique has given me.

"Thank you for all your kind, beautiful messages, they really touched me."
