Snow Patrol reveals Ludlow's historic streets 'nearly didn't survive' band's visit

‘Your town is extremely beautiful... though the streets are a little narrow’

Snow Patrol’s lead singer has revealed Ludlow’s narrow streets proved a little challenging to navigate as the band descended on the town for their Live at Ludlow Castle performance last week.

Last Thursday evening, Northern Irish rock band Snow Patrol took Ludlow by storm when they rolled in for Live at Ludlow Castle 2026.

The band, supported by Corinne Bailey Rae and The Florentinas, were the first to perform at this year’s concert series.

Describing the show as “a hell of a night”, the band’s frontman Gary Lightbody revealed that the town’s narrow streets proved a little challenging to navigate.

Thanking fans on social media after the show, he wrote: “What a setting for a show and what a crowd you were. Thank you for the warmest of welcomes and for a hell of a night.

“Your town is extremely beautiful, though the streets are a little narrow for a tour bus. Tudor buildings that have stood for many hundreds of years nearly didn’t survive us.”

Fortunately, thanks to what Lightbody described as “slow and skilful driving,” both the band and Ludlow’s architecture emerged unscathed - and the town was left just as picturesque as they were found.

The castle has been closed to the public for the concert series, but will reopen on July 21 and 22 with some areas restricted, then will fully close again from July 23 to 29.
