Shropshire Petal Fields set to bloom as visitors return for popular summer event next week

The fields will reopen to the public next Friday

The organisers of Shropshire Petal Fields are getting ready to welcome back visitors next week.

The popular summer visitor attraction, Shropshire Petal Fields, is set to reopen to the public next Friday, August 7.

The annual event takes place just outside of Newport and features vibrant blooms like delphiniums, cornflowers and sunflowers.

Collaboratively run by Shropshire Petals and Shropshire Festivals, the working family farm opens to the public each summer when the flowers reach peak bloom.

This year, farmers say they have endured “an exceptionally challenging growing season” with an unusually cold spring and two heatwaves meaning flowers are expected to be much shorter and more widely spaced than in previous years.

But organisers are keen to stress there will still be plenty of colour for visitors to enjoy, with a recent update showing stunning blooms of blue delphiniums and bright sunflowers.

While the site isn’t due to open to visitors until August 7, festivities will begin slightly earlier, with the team preparing to welcome an ABBA tribute band to the fields on Friday, July 31.

Sensation ABBA Tribute Band are set to transport revellers back to the golden age of the iconic band with stunning harmonies, costumes and choreography, while visitors can grab a bite to eat from a selection of street food traders.

On Saturday, August 1, the site will welcome a 50-piece orchestra to play hits from stage and screen, including tunes from Jurassic Park, Les Mis and Lord of the Rings.

An array of events are planned throughout the site’s opening too - including a series of dog-friendly days, daily yoga sessions and a late-night opening for visitors to enjoy sunset among the flowers.
