Part of Shrewsbury's Quarry to close for tree works next week

The affected area of the park will be temporarily closed to keep the public safe, Shrewsbury Town Council has said.

Part of Shrewsbury’s Quarry will be closed this coming week while work is carried out on its trees.

Shrewsbury Town Council has said that essential works are planned to start on Monday, October 26 near Victoria Avenue, between Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club and the Old Shrewsbury Bowling Club.

Shropshire Horticultural Society, which owns the land near Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club, has arranged for work to be carried out on a number of yew trees that were originally grown as hedges but have since become significantly overgrown.

The trees will be reduced to approximately six feet in height to allow the main trees along Victoria Avenue to grow unimpeded.

For safety reasons, the affected areas will be temporarily closed to the public while the work is carried out.

The footpath between St Julian’s Friars car park, near Greyfriars Bridge, and The Quarry park will remain open, allowing residents and visitors to continue accessing the park.
