Pub told to get noise advice

A Bridgnorth pub has been ordered to employ an expert to cut down on noise following complaints from residents. The New Inn, in St Mary's Street, was subject to a licence review yesterday.

Councillors ordered the licensees to observe a number of new conditions.

Councillors said the pub must employ an acoustic consultant to carry out a noise check and the licensees had to ensure no residents were disturbed by the pub.

Peter Parkes, of The New Inn, admitted noise could sometimes be a problem and said he was keen to work with residents to improve the situation.

He said: "We very much welcome the proposal put forward. We have pro-actively tried to address all the issues that have come forward, not always with great success."

Mr Parkes said he wanted to establish a residents' forum to talk openly about any problems.

Environmental health officer, Emma Waites, told yesterday's Bridgnorth District Council licensing committee hearing that residents had complained about noise.

She said: "Officers have witnessed noise on several occasions, and on all occasions noise is clearly audible on the street, as far as The Croft Hotel."

Keith Allan, chairman of St Mary's Street Residents' Association, said there had been constant problems since Mr Parkes took on the pub two years ago.

"We feel we have had to suffer far more than we have ever should," Mr Allan said. "The total disregard for authority and people's right to live a quiet peaceful life beggars belief."
