The road was closed for more than 24 hours after the incident

The incident happened at the Chetwynd Aston Roundabout - locally referred to as Sheep Island.

The busy A-road was closed from around 8am on Tuesday (June 2) until Wednesday evening after highways and drainage teams worked tirelessly to clean up the spill.

When the road finally reopened, a 10mph speed limit was in place due to possible grease being left on the road surface.

Newport councillor Peter Scott thanked staff and contractors with Telford & Wrekin Council for their efforts in the clean-up, which at times took place in heavy rain and wind.

Councillor Scott added: “It was never going to be an easy job but they got stuck in and got the roads open as quickly as they could. I hope the public appreciate their efforts.”
