A-road near Newport reopens following day of closure after lorry 'carrying offal' shed its load
The road has been closed since around 8am on Tuesday
An A-road near Newport has reopened with a reduced speed limit in place, 24 hours after a lorry shed its load.
A clean-up operation was under way on Wednesday morning (June 3) after a lorry shed its load on the A518 near Newport.
The A518 closed at around 8am on Tuesday between the Church Aston roundabout and the Chetwynd Aston Roundabout (locally referred to as Sheep Island). All approaches to Sheep Island were also closed.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said at the time: “The A518 is currently closed between the A41 roundabout and Sheep roundabout due to a lorry shedding its load.
“Officers will remain at the scene to manage the road closure.”
At around 11am on Wednesday, Newport councillor Peter Scott said drainage teams were on site emptying the drains after the spillage, which local reports suggested was animal offal.
Councillor Scott expected the drains to take around 2 hours to clear, after which the road should begin to reopen.
He added: “Everything that can be done is being done. I appreciate it’s a huge frustration for everyone but safety is paramount.”
The road has since reopened with a speed limit of 10mph.
