More than £45,000 raised as hundreds walk breast cancer-themed trails in Wales and Telford

“It was our best yet”

Hundreds of people turned out in Ironbridge to take part in a charity walk for local cancer services, helping to raise thousands of pounds in the process.

Earlier this month, the charity Lingen Davies Cancer Support welcomed walkers on the 10.5km breast cancer-themed ‘Titty Trail’ to fundraise and raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer.

Whilst Ironbridge did hold a charity walk, another sister event was also held in Aberystwyth.

Those who took part in both charity events raised a total of more than £45,000 to support regional cancer services.

The charity launched the event back in 2023 to coincide with breast cancer awareness month.

Emilie Kerr, Events and Marketing Lead for Lingen Davies, said: “This is the charity’s fourth ‘Titty Trail’, and I can confidently say that it was our best yet – more participants, more awareness, and more fun than ever before!

“Every year, the name raises a few eyebrows but that’s what it’s all about – to spark lifesaving discussions about breast cancer and highlight the signs and symptoms both men and women need to look out for.”

She went on to say: “This year, we held the Shropshire event in Ironbridge – the very heart of the Industrial Revolution - for the first time as we’re working to raise £5 million through our Sunflower Appeal to fund the development of a Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital by 2029.”

For the event, the charity partnered with Blue Sky Adventures, a national organisation dedicated to supporting the charity sector, whilst the Ironbridge walk was sponsored by Shropshire Homes.

One of the people who took part in the Shropshire ‘Titty Trail’ was Sophie Morris, from Oswestry.

She said: “A group of us took part in the Shropshire event last year when it was in Bishop’s Castle, and we just knew we wanted to do it again.

“The atmosphere this year was incredible, and we met so many people with different reasons for taking part. Some had recently finished treatment, some were walking in memory of their loved ones, and others were walking to help raise money for Lingen Davies’ Sunflower Appeal to enhance local cancer services.

“We’re already talking about getting an even bigger group of us together next year.”
