Major border A-road between Shrewsbury and Welshpool reopens after lengthy closure following crash
It is understood that a bridge was damaged in the crash
A major road between Mid Wales and Shropshire has reopened after a lengthy closure following a crash.
The A458 was closed outside of Welshpool throughout Wednesday (August 26) after a crash in the early hours.
Traffic Wales initially said the busy route between Welshpool and Shrewsbury would be shut for “at least another 24 hours” - meaning the road would have re-opened at 3pm tomorrow at the earliest.
But the organisation has now confirmed it was able to re-open the road earlier than planned, with the route now clear.
It is understood that the crash, which involved one vehicle, caused damage to the bridge that crosses the River Severn at Buttington.
Police said that no one had been injured in the crash, and that the vehicle involved had been recovered.
A spokesman said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a damage only, single-vehicle collision that took place on the A458 between Middletown and Welshpool at 2.20am on Wednesday.
“The road was closed while officers attended the scene. No injuries were reported.
“The vehicle was recovered from the road at approximately 5.20am.”
