Changes to bin collections expected amid third heatwave of the year
A spokesperson for the local authority said in the event of ”extreme heat” some collections may be “disrupted”
Residents are being advised to put their bins out earlier than usual in an attempt to shield collection crews from high temperatures this week.
The UK is experiencing its third heatwave of the year, with temperatures in Shropshire expected to reach around 32C at its peak later this week.
As a result, Telford & Wrekin Council is warning that bin collections may start earlier and is advising residents to put bins outside by 6am or the night before collection day.
A spokesperson for the local authority said that in the event of “extreme heat” some collections may be “disrupted”.
They said: “If this happens, we’ll provide updates and further information.”
While upcoming temperatures are not expected to reach the exceptional levels recorded during the June heatwave, many areas are set to experience several consecutive days of hot weather.
For most of Shropshire, maximum daily temperatures are predicted to linger between 30C and 32C between Wednesday and Saturday.
Met Office deputy chief forecaster Steven Keates said: “Parts of the UK are entering heatwave conditions: the third heatwave in the UK so far this year.
“However, unlike the May and June heatwaves, we are not expecting this heatwave to be record-breaking.
“Temperatures this week are not expected to reach the highs we witnessed last month, though parts of southern England in particular are likely to see several days in the low 30s Celsius, and a few places could reach 34 to 35C later this week.
“Night-time temperatures again will not be as high as what we experienced in June, though some larger urban areas are likely to remain in the high teens Celsius overnight, especially later in the week, and there is a chance that a tropical night (where temperatures do not fall below 20C) may be recorded in a few places.”
