Gang threatens staff in £2,500 raid

Masked robbers threatened staff at a Telford takeaway before fleeing with thousands of pounds. The gang of up to four men struck at Domino's Pizza in Oakengates shortly before midnight yesterday.

Two female members of staff were forced to hand over cash as they feared for their own safety. It is not known whether the robbers were armed.

It is understood the robbers, wearing balaclavas, fled with cash in two bags totalling up to £2,500.

Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said: "Two males, who were joined by up to two further men, burst into the shop and threatened two members of staff. They asked them to open the safe.

"The staff felt threatened and did what they were told and handed over a significant sum of money.

"They also took a handbag from a member of staff."

Mr Ammonds urged anyone with any information to contact police.

"The staff are really quite shaken up by the incident. We would urge anyone who may have seen the men arriving at the shop in Holyhead Road at about 11.45pm to contact police," he said.

Officers have been studying CCTV footage from the shop.

One of the robbers was wearing a black waterproof jacket with the hood over a grey hooded striped top. He was also wearing black trousers and shoes and was 5ft 10in of stocky build.

The stolen bag was a green patterned Bench bag and contained personal belongings including keys and cards.
