The death of a woman in a collision in Newtown requires further investigation, a coroner has said.

Monika Ruahine Jones, 79, passed away at the scene of the collision on the A483 at Dolfor on Sunday, October 25.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at Pontypridd Coroner's Court by South Wales Central Area Coroner Mr Andrew Morse on Wednesday.

He was told that Ms Jones' death was reported by Dyfed Powys Police on October 26.

Mr Morse heard that Ms Jones was the driver of a vehicle involved in a single vehicle collision on the A483 at Dolfor near Newtown on October 25.

As a result of her injuries she passed away at the scene.

Ms Jones was identified by her son by October 27.

A post mortem was carried out by Dr Stafford at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on November 2 and he gave a provisional cause of death as pending further investigations.

The inquest was told Ms Jones lived on Pontypridd Road, Barry and was born in London.

Mr Morse said once further investigations had been concluded the family and other interested parties would be informed of a future date of any further inquest.

He extended the condolences of the court and himself to the family.

Ms Jones' family has paid tribute to their much-loved mum, who they said was loved and respected by so many people.
