Death of man at Royal Welsh Showground linked to substance misuse
The death of a man at the Royal Welsh Showground is 'consistent with drug overdose', an inquest opening has said.
Dewi Aeron Evans, 25, from Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr, Corwen died near the showground in Llanelwedd on Saturday, July 18.
An inquest opening took place at Pontypridd Coroner's Court this morning (Friday).
South Wales Central Coroner Patricia Morgan was told that Dewi was identified by his father and investigations show that his passing has been linked to substance misuse.
His death was reported by Dyfed Powys Police on July 20.
A post mortem carried out by Dr George Kondratowicz. of Prince Charles Hospital gives an initial cause of death as consistent with drug overdose pending toxicology tests.
Ms Morgan said Dewi was born in Rhyl on November 24 2000.
She said she had reason to believe his death was unnatural and so she opened and adjourned the inquest for a full investigation to be carried out.
She said a final inquest will be held in due course and she expressed her condolences to Dewi's family and friends at this sad time.
In a tribute released through Dyfed Powys Police, his family said: "Dewi Aeron Evans, a beloved and dear son, brother and grandson, will be a huge loss to the family and community in Uwchaled. The family and community would appreciate privacy at this difficult time."
Police were called to a report of a medical emergency at around 10:30pm on Saturday, July 18. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.
Temporary Chief Superintendent Steve Davies said at the time: "This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the young man's family at this difficult time.
"I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident, and the death is currently being treated as unexplained."
There is no evidence of any ongoing risk to the wider public in connection with this sad incident."
Three men were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences, and later released on bail.
