Armed police surround sports car and arrest two men after attempted robbery

Armed police stopped traffic and swarmed a sports car at a major Shrewsbury roundabout to arrest two men suspected to be involved in an attempted robbery.

As many as seven police vehicles boxed in a sports car at the Heathgates roundabout connecting the A5112, the B5062 and the A5191 at about 10am on Saturday.

Video posted online shows officers pointing weapons at the car's occupants before they exit the car and are taken into custody.

The officers were investigating an attempted robbery in Wellington at about 6.30am on Saturday.

Two men were tracked to the Heathgates roundabout in Shrewsbury. One man, aged 32, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. A second man, aged 33, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Both men remain in custody.

The police operation also involved dogs.
