Council officer suspended

One of Telford & Wrekin Council's top officers - who was named in the Queen's Honours lists for her services to education - has been suspended from her job, it emerged today.
Christine Davies, corporate director for children and young people, is one of the leading figures for education across the county.
Borough council chiefs today confirmed a senior officer had been suspended as a "precautionary" measure.
They said the officer would remain suspended until an independent investigation had taken place.
But bosses would not comment on why the senior officer had been suspended and Mrs Davies could not be contacted for comment today.
